In Lombardy, not far from the city of Varese, is the beautiful protected area of the Campo dei Fiori Regional Park. The park occupies the territory of the Campo dei Fiori massif and the Monte Martica massif, two of the highest mountains of the Varesine Prealps. The Val di Rasa separates the two massifs, offering a flat point where you can rest while exploring the park.
In the beginning, the Campo dei Fiori area was known as the "Mountain of Varese" because of its proximity to the city of Varese. Already in the 50's the first visitors were interested in the Alps and tried to visit them to observe the surroundings.
It was therefore necessary to find a way to protect the area and all the flora and fauna associated with it. This is how the Regional Park was born in 1984, with the aim of creating a safe and peaceful space. Campo dei Fiori is home to a great variety of plants, flowers and trees, which find in the Park a protective and reassuring ally.
Enthusiasts can reach the guided paths and explore the interior, being carried away by the beauty of the places and the evocative panorama.
As expected, the Campo dei Fiori Regional Park is characterized by the presence of marked hiking trails. Specifically, twenty-one trails cross all the highlights of the area.
Usually, the duration of the route does not exceed two hours, so that everyone can enjoy this experience and experience the thrill of contact with nature. Well-marked and easy to follow, the trails are suitable for both experts and beginners, who will have no difficulty in reaching certain points.
Among the most interesting are Path 4, which starts from Brinzio and reaches Valico Pizzelle, and Path 21, which crosses the three provinces of Casciago, Morosolo and Mustonate. At the entrance to the Park and various points throughout the Park, you will find specific panels with maps of the area and guided itineraries.
Trekking lovers will have the opportunity to experience different interesting alternatives that will be able to satisfy their needs and expectations. Remember to wear suitable footwear so as not to suffer from fatigue and to always maintain a good level of grip on the ground.
In the park, there are also some important architectural complexes that deserve to be visited.
Among them, we remember the Sacro Monte di Varese, a sanctuary dedicated to the Black Madonna, and the Gran Hotel Campo dei Fiori, a huge building in perfect Liberty style.
The deciduous woods occupy a large part of the slopes of the Campo dei Fiori massif. Chestnut, linden, and beech trees alternate with birch and pine trees, creating a fascinating wooded landscape full of different scents.
In the north-western part of the park, there are the so-called chestnut woods, vast open spaces surrounded by greenery. Here you can find the beautiful bear's ear primrose and wild orchids, which grow in very few areas of Italy.
Speaking of fauna, we must mention the presence of deer and roe deer. In fact, it is very easy to see them crossing paths and grazing near the valleys. In addition to the deer, you can also see wild boars, hares, squirrels, and foxes peeking out from behind the trunks of the trees.
If you look up, you can see birds such as the peregrine falcon and the marsh harrier, which migrate to the area during the hot season.
