5 Unmissable attractions to see in Monza

The city of Monza is one of the best-known and most appreciated Lombard provinces by tourists. Milan and Brescia surpass it only by territorial extension but have nothing to envy of its suggestive beauty.

The city is known for the Formula 1 Grand Prix, which is held every year at the Monza racetrack. Great sportsmen challenged each other in 85 editions, all hosted by the Monzesi and their precious track.

In many tourist guides, Monza appears as the city of engines and speed, a constantly evolving space that changes over time and in favor of novelties. Respect for the history and culture of the place is combined with a desire for innovation. The aim is to find the unusual and take the city to a higher level.

True enthusiasts will be able to appreciate the attractions of Monza, absolutely worth discovering for those who decide to spend a few days in the city.

Together we will see five of the most particular characteristics, to spend a fun day in the alleys of Monza.

What to see on a day in Monza

Below, we leave you the five places to see if you spend the day in Monza. Along the way, you are likely to come across other buildings that will attract your attention. The advice is to stop and ask passers-by for information, to also have a taste of the city's dialect.

If you pass through Corso Italia, don't forget to take a look at the “house of the dwarves”, the tiny building located between one building and another. According to legend, that house belonged to magical dwarves.

1) Monza Cathedral

The Duomo of Monza is one of the most interesting historical buildings in all of Monza, rich in history and art.

Her construction is linked to Queen Teodolinda, who asked her trusted architect to build a worthy place of worship. The Teodolinda chapel, which occupies a large portion of the church, is finely decorated with a series of interesting frescoes. Each of the paintings in perfect Gothic style tells an episode from the life of the Queen and of the whole Iron Crown. Forty-five close-up works have always been a source of pride for Monza.

2) Bridge of the Lions

We continue with the second attraction, the Bridge of the Lions. Once you have left the Duomo, just take the road on the right - Via Lambro - and in a few minutes, you will find yourself at the bridge.

Four imposing statues of lions protect the bridge, built in 1842 starting from the remains of the Roman one. The structure allows you to reach the opposite bank of the Lambro River, crossing one of the most "ancient" points of the whole city.

3) Palazzo dell’Arengario

Since its original construction, which took place around the 13th century, the Palazzo dell’Arengario has always been used as the seat of municipal activity. It was once part of a larger set of buildings, including the Palazzo Pretorio, which unfortunately can no longer be visited today.

The rooms on the first and second floors of the Palazzo often host interesting exhibitions dedicated to the world of art, where you can discover emerging authors and incredible paintings.

4) Royal Villa of Monza

The Royal Villa of Monza, also known as the “Reggia di Monza”, offers a delicate glimpse into the life of the royals of the past.

Built in the 18th century at the behest of the Habsburg family, the Villa was considered a comfortable summer residence, with very large gardens and spaces.

Visiting the Royal Villa you will have the opportunity to observe the king's private apartments, the common apartments dedicated to the nobles, and the adjoining garden. All-inclusive on one occasion, a unique sensation that will make you feel like in a fairytale.

5) Park of Monza and Rose Garden

We conclude with Monza Park and the adjoining Rose Garden, two environments that deserve to be visited.

Both are located a short distance from the Royal Villa of Monza and can be easily reached on foot.

The rose garden, commissioned by Niso Fumagalli, is marked by the presence of an impressive quantity of flowers. A delicate pond completes the whole, making the experience of the visit even more enjoyable.

Monza Park, on the other hand, is located just a few minutes away from the Villa. It was requested and wanted by Napoleon himself, whose intention was to recreate an agricultural estate and a hunting reserve.
