The archaeological site of Paestum, together with the National Park of Cilento and Vallo del Diano, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998. This place in the south of Campania is really beautiful and has naturalistic places, archaeological sites and cities not to be missed.

Visitors to Paestum are always amazed, the archaeological area contains streets, houses, fountains, and ancient meeting places for the inhabitants of the city. The most famous of all is certainly the Temple of Hera, or Basilica of Paestum, dating back to 560 B.C., followed by the Temple of Neptune, which still stands imposing and austere on the plain, and the beautiful Temple of Athena, perhaps the oldest of all.

Once the visit to the remains of the ancient city is over, it is a must to deepen the beauties found on the site inside the Archaeological Museum, where you can see the famous Tomb of the Diver, the symbol of the Archaeological Park of Paestum.

Velia and the Cilento National Park

The visit to the archaeological park of Paestum continues until the excavations of Velia, and the two sites form a single large park. Located in the town of Ascea, in Cilento, the archaeological park of Velia is famous because the philosophical school of Parmenides and Zeno was born here. Velia may have been founded in 540 B.C. and was once reached by the sea. The city is truly impressive, with its acropolis at the top and the remains of houses and streets below, an open-air museum from which to admire a suggestive view of the Cilento sea.

The National Park of Cilento, Vallo del Diano, and Alburni are some of the most beautiful parks in Italy: overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, it is a skillful mix of history, art, nature, culture, and natural beauty to be discovered. The Park of Cilento allows you to make suggestive excursions to admire the natural wonders and landscapes, and then to take a dip in a blue sea that is not to be missed.
